Course
Critical Structural Integrity Challenges for Wind Energy in the UK
The Boilerhouse, Grantham, Lincolnshire, UK
March 28, 2023
As the need for renewable energy increases, the demand for onshore and offshore wind energy generation facilities continues to grow. The UK is a global leader in power generation from offshore wind and this accolade owes its success to the materials and technology used in the construction of these complex installations. Structural integrity is vital in remote locations, be they off our coast or on our moors, and materials engineers are playing a vital role in ensuring that the turbines and associated infrastructure operate without a hitch for prolonged periods.
This new, one-day course organised by the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3), and in collaboration with FESI, explores the critical structural integrity challenges that must be considered when planning a new facility. The course takes place on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at The Boilerhouse, Grantham, UK.
This course course will cover the following aspects:
- The importance of wind energy for the UK’s energy mix
- Machine loading in wind turbines
- Structural design considerations for power generation from wind
- Regulatory requirements and assessment methodologies
- Future trends
- Case studies
