Royal Society Event Video: Fracture Stranger Than Friction

On October 19, 2020 the Royal Society hosted an online discussion meeting organised by Dr Kevin Kendall FRS, Professor Anthony Kinloch FREng FRS, Professor William Clegg and Dr Siva Bohm. The title of this event was A Cracking Approach to Inventing Tough New Materials: Fracture Stranger Than Friction.

In the 100 years since Alan Arnold Griffith published his ground-breaking paper on the energy criterion for cracking, there have been great advances in the understanding of cracks. This meeting reflected on recent observations in the field plus interesting new theories of cracking, as well as discussing how to invent tough new materials, while removing problems in fracture mechanics.

The organisers are pleased to announce that a recording of the event is now available to view on the Royal Society website.
