R6 Defect Assessment Procedures

Manchester Conference Centre, Manchester, UK

November 14–15, 2016

The R6 procedures are a fracture mechanics based methodology used for assessing the integrity of structural components containing known or postulated crack-like defects. The aim of the two-day training course is for the participants to gain a good appreciation and understanding of R6 and to be able to undertake calculations involving the main basic aspects of the procedures.

The R6 course comprises a combination of presentations by experts and the participants undertaking calculations on benchmark modules on computers using EXCEL software. The course will be structured along the following lines:

  • The first day will concentrate on the concepts of fracture mechanics and the basics of the R6 procedure.
  • The second day will incorporate the more advanced aspects of R6.

The course will be presented by John Sharples and Peter James of Amec Foster Wheeler who have extensive experience in the development and application of the R6 procedures. All course workbooks will be provided on the day. All participants need to bring a computer lap-top containing Excel software for the benchmark modules.
