Engineering Structural Integrity: A Vital Enabler for Net-Zero

Workshop

Engineering Structural Integrity: A Vital Enabler for Net-Zero

Royal Academy of Engineering, London, UK

December 16, 2024

Registration is now CLOSED

The UK’s journey to net-zero carbon emissions depends on Engineering Structural Integrity (ESI) skills, methods, and activities for reducing whole-life carbon costs and maintaining a sovereign capability for safe operations and readiness. ESI activities seek to minimise the impacts of ageing and maximise the life of our extensive existing infrastructure to increase the return on investment.

A Position Paper (Full Paper and Executive Summary Only), commissioned by the Henry Royce Institute for Advanced Materials (Royce) and prepared with the UK Forum for Engineering Structural Integrity (FESI), summarises the criticality of ESI to the UK economy and the opportunities afforded through a nationally co-ordinated approach to ESI technology, research, and training.

This workshop, being held at the Royal Academy of Engineering, will launch and discuss the Position Paper, as being a consultation document and develop initial plans for taking the recommendations forward involving the appropriate community—likely to include government representatives, research and technology organisations, academia, key industry sectors and regulators.

Who should attend?

This workshop will present the outcomes of work earlier this year by the UK Forum for Engineering Structural Integrity (FESI), commissioned by the Henry Royce Institute, on a position paper describing the necessary contributions of Structural Integrity to enable the UK to meet its net-zero goals. We will launch the draft recommendations and present the next steps for the Structural Integrity community in implementing the outcomes and defining the UK needs to deliver the proposed strategy.
