Structural Integrity Codes for Novel Structures and Materials

Seminar

Structural Integrity Codes for Novel Structures and Materials

Institution of Mechanical Engineers, One Birdcage Walk, London, UK

November 9, 2022

FESI is pleased to announce our role as a Supporting Organisation for a seminar organised by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers entitled Structural Integrity Codes for Novel Structures and Materials. This event is being held at the headquarters of IMechE: One Birdcage Walk, on Wednesday, November 9, 2022.

Structural integrity codes provide requirements and guidance on how engineering organisations design, manufacture, use and dispose of different systems. Recent developments across engineering industries in technologies incorporate progressively novel and complex structures into their designs.

Structural integrity codes must be developed and updated to ensure these novel and complex structures are safe, secure and minimise environmental impact. These codes are often developed by or with regulators, industry and government organisations but are used daily by the mechanical engineer. This seminar will provide case study examples from across different sectors and organisations that are applying legacy and new codes to novel and complex structures.

Topics covered include:

  • UK Military Air Domain ‘Design Organisation’: Regulatory Approach when Considering Certification for Novel Materials and Manufacturing Practices
  • Design Codes and Assessment Procedures Used in UK Nuclear Power Plant
  • Fusion Codes & Standards: ASME BPVC Section III Division 4
  • Applying Integrity Codes to Novel Materials in the Automotive Industry
