PhD Opportunity in Modelling of Stress Corrosion Cracking in Nuclear Materials

This PhD project at The University of Manchester is a chance to work on stress corrosion cracking research on nickel based alloys in partnership with Wood Plc.

Starting in September 2020, the project will develop a continuum mechanics model to understand damage build-up within these materials in the primary water environment of a nuclear reactor.

This fully-funded PhD is part of the Growing Skills for Reliable Economic Energy from Nuclear EPSRC CDT, providing opportunity for industrial experience and attendance at international conferences.

Interested candidates would ideally have a background in Materials Science, Metallurgy or Modelling and must be able to secure UK Security Clearance (SC).

If interested, please refer to the application page on the university website, or contact Sonya Pemberton, Senior Consultant in Specialist Technical Services at Wood Plc, and(or) Andrey Jivkov, Professor of Solid Mechanics, The University of Manchester, for more information.
