Innovate Exchange Challenge: Improving the Safe Management of Ageing Spring Hangers
Innovate UK Business Connect is supporting the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) in seeking innovators who can provide solutions that will help to improve the safe management of ageing spring hangers.
Spring hangers typically only have a design life of 25 years. These hangers, originally used to manage vibration and movement in pipework systems, have degraded and now pose significant risks to human safety and to the decommissioning programme.
Through its Nuclear Restoration Services (NRS), the NDA is seeking solutions that will help NRS develop a comprehensive toolbox for various conditions and types of hangers, of which there are more than 10,000 spring hangers across the NRS sites.
Successful applicants will be given an opportunity to outline their proposal to a team of representatives from the NDA and NRS. Selected solutions may be awarded proof of concept funding with potential for further adoption if successful.
